Mardi Himal Trek In 9 Days

Situated just east of one of the most popular treks of Nepal, the Annapurna Base Camp trek, the Mardi Himal trek is a hidden gem. Few trekkers make their way to the Mardi Himal Base Camp spectacularly situated at the base of Mardi Himal and the impressive Machapuchhre.

The trail goes along small winding paths, through magical rhododendron forests until you climb out of the forest at an elevation around 3,300 m. The landscape changes quite abruptly into a rugged high mountain landscape, with amazing views of Mardi Himal, Machapuchre, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli.

From High Camp (3580 m; some maps incorrectly mention 3900 m) you can climb up to Mardi Himal Base Camp in about 3-4 hours, which offers spectacular close up views of the entire Annapurna Range.

There are simple guesthouses and home stays along the entire route. If you plan to do this trek in the winter months please check with a local tour operator if the lodges are open.

ACCOMODATION

We will be accommodated in 3-star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara; and tea houses during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 260. Conqueri will arrange rooms with attached washrooms; however, tea houses in some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu, Pokhara and the trekking regions at lower elevation but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations.

MEALS

During our trek, we can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be provided from the tea house or from a lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be provided on the way to the next destination. All meals including breakfast, lunch and dinner, will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu and Pokhara. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners.

PHYSICAL CONDITION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

This is a moderate trek suitable for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk at least 5-7 hours a day with a light day pack. Walking in higher altitudes is more physically demanding than walking in lower altitudes; however, if we are in excellent health with average physical fitness and have a positive attitude, self-confidence and strong determination, we can accomplish this trek successfully. Exercising and jogging regularly for some weeks prior to the trip is a good idea to enhance our strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. It is vital for participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases to consult their doctor before taking the trip. It is also advised that you inform Conqueri of any conditions before booking the trek.

Autumn (Sept. to Nov.) and Spring (March to May) are the best seasons for trekking in the Annapurna region. The weather is sunny and warm with outstanding views. If you wish to avoid crowds and enjoy some alone time with nature, then taking this trip during winter (Dec., Jan., Feb.) could also be an option. However, the temperature during winter could be harsh for most guests. Trekking in the summer or monsoon season (June to Aug.) will be affected by rain but the summer trek could be a boon for a keen botanist

Itinerary

Conqueri trek and expedition representative staff will pick you up from TIA arrival gate out side and transfer to Hotel/ check in , take a rest and your guide will meet you in the evening to check your trekking gear. He will help you buy any gear you still need and exchange local currency that you’ll need during the trek.

Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (850m) - 7-8 hrs drive Today, after an early breakfast, your guide will pick you up and take you to the tourist bus station at Sorkhuttee for a scenic drive to Pokhara. The bus journey takes about 7 hours and offers beautiful views of hills, terraced fields, rivers, distant mountains, and rural villages. During the trip, the bus will stop for lunch by the Tirshuli River. Once you reach Pokhara Valley, you will be transferred to your hotel where you can check into your room. In the evening, if you’re not too tired, you can stroll around Lakeside near Fewa Lake.

From Pokhara the drive to Kande which is the start point of our trek takes about 1 hr. We start our trek from Kande and walk through green hills, rhododendron forests and reach the mountain pass of Deurali which separates the Annapurna south range and the Mardi Himal/Mt. Machapucchre. We continue our trek across several villages while soaking in the stunning views of the snowcapped peaks in the distance. Overnight in a lodge.

In today's trek we will trek over grasslands with lovely views of Mt. Machapucchre, Mardi Himal, Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range. Following a clearing we will reach the forest camp and continue to move ahead to low camp. You may encounter exotic wildlife en route such as Himalayan thar, spotted deer, etc along with rhododendron flowers. Overnight in a lodge.

Today we will trek along the Mardi Himal edge to reach the High Camp. The trek on the Mardi Himal ridge presents majestic views of Mardi Himal and Mt. Machapucchre. We cross rhododendron bushes as the tree line begins to thin out. There are chances of spotting the "Daphne", the national bird of Nepal. Overnight in lodges at High Camp.

Today we will start early and move towards the Mardi Himal Base Camp in the hopes of catching the beautiful sunrise over Mardi Himal and Mt. Machapucchre. The trail is steep and worth every step knowing what awaits you. You will be presented with stunning views of Mardi Himal, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Mt. Machapucchre. Spend some time enjoying and soaking in the views. We then make a move towards the High Camp. Overnight in lodges at High Camp.

The trail from High Camp to Siding is steep. We will reach the traditional village of Siding and then take a 3 hrs drive to Pokhara.

This day after breakfast we drive to Pokhara airport and fly to kathmandu with beautiful view of Daulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu and Langtang himal ranges depend on weather and drive to kathmandu hotel from domestic airport,
